Alpha Stim in the media-
What is Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation?
Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation is a form of neurostimulation that delivers a small alternating current through electrodes placed on the body. Alpha-Stim is the electrotherapy device prescribed to effectively treat chronic, acute and post-traumatic pain, anxiety, insomnia and depression.
How does it work?
Alpha-Stim generates a unique patented waveform no other device can offer. Unlike medications which are introduced to your body in a chemical format then broken down to smaller components such as electrons, Alpha- Stim begins at the electron level, allowing your body's cells to return to their natural functioning state. Alpha-Stim provides long lasting, cumulative relief without the risk of negative effects such as tolerance and addiction to medications.
The current is applied with easy-to-use clips that attach on the ear lobes for at least 20 minutes,
2-3 times a week, or on an as-needed basis.
Alpha-Stim can help induce a pleasant, relaxed feeling of well-being.
The current changes an individual’s brain activity, specifically in relation to different brainwave frequency bands. Alpha Stim technology uses Microcurrent Electrical Therapy (MET) for people suffering from acute, chronic or post-traumatic pain, and Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) for people suffering from anxiety, insomnia and depression. After only one 20 minute treatment using a CES waveform, participants should experience an increase in alpha brainwave activity - relaxation brain waves - and a decrease in delta brainwave activity - deep sleep waves. These changes have been shown to help reduce anxiety and improve restorative sleep.
Typical effects and time period
Pain control and anxiety reduction are usually experienced during 1 treatment or hours after treatment
Insomnia is usually improved after initial treatment but could take up to 4 weeks
- when this treatment is used must be tailored to the patient (some find that they must conduct the treatment at least 3 hours before going to sleep as CES may interfere with sleep; it may also be used in the morning to the same effect)
Depression usually takes 3 or more weeks of daily treatment to experience significant improvement
